Crimson Buta

Three carved blocks—one for outline, one for body, one for bloom—work in rhythm to build the pattern of Crimson Buta: small trees flowering in vessels across a field of madder red. Each press leaves its own slight tremor, a fingerprint of the hand that made it. The pigments settle into the cotton as if they’ve always belonged there, and the softened finish gives the cloth a warmth that feels inherited rather than new.

Based on a 19th-century example of the Indo-Persian buta, a motif that once crossed oceans on ships of spice and chintz, finding its way into countless languages of beauty. In this iteration, it feels like memory printed in color—humble, radiant, and human.
