Fifteen years ago, I was wandering through the flea market in Saint-Ouen when a scrap of fabric poking out of the bottom of a pile of odds and ends caught my eye. It was a loosely woven Japanese shibori too small and delicate to make anything out of, but the poetry of the fine lines flowing across the fabric — a style I would later discover is called Arashi — captured my heart. So began my collection of antique textiles, which over the years has grown into the thousands, and followed me from place to place, filling cupboards and boxes; becoming an entry point to learn about the history of textiles and the people who created them, and always begging the question, what shall I do with you?

While traveling in India a few years ago, serendipity led me to meet an incredible group of textile artisans, and the opportunity to start experimenting with reproductions of some favorite pieces from my collection presented itself. I have since become obsessed with the process: the myriad technical, environmental, artistic, and cultural considerations as well as the extraordinary talents of the artisans that I have the privilege to work with. I hope that you enjoy looking at this first collection of fabrics. My hope is for you to join me on an exploration of the unique cultural histories that these fabrics are an invitation into as well as the artistic ingenuity and age-old artisan techniques that are still alive, but need our support if they are to survive.

This journey for me is just getting started, and it is my sincere hope that the unique stories and history that these fabrics represent can become interwoven with your heirlooms and journey through this precious life.
