This design, drawn from Sean’s personal archive, celebrates the Karahana, or “Tang flower,” motif, whose journey from the Tang Dynasty to the Edo period tells a story of cultural reverence and transformation. The peony, central to the pattern, is cherished in both China and Japan as a symbol of honor, grace, and the fleeting beauty of life.

In bringing this fabric to life, our artisans become modern storytellers, preserving an ancient technique known as discharge printing. With profound care, they lift the dye from the cloth, revealing delicate patterns that seem to emerge from the very soul of the fabric. Each piece, cured and washed to perfection, speaks of a tradition that values patience, intention, and the quiet power of subtlety.
